Be Like Kindling

We really enjoy camping. God often speaks to us when we are out camping and hiking in His creation. I like a good camp fire and Loyd can make a great fire. One evening while we were sitting around the fire, God began to show me something about kindling.

Kindling is essential to starting a good fire, but the kindling never gets any recognition or praise. People talk about how pretty the fire is and how great it feels to be standing next to it and soaking up its warmth. But no one has ever walked up to a fire and said, "Oh, what great kindling you have!" All of the power and function is in the fire. The kindling's job is to be used up.

We are to be the kindling and God is the fire. Deuteronomy 4:24 says that our God is a consuming fire. God needs us in order to accomplish His will in the earth. Our job is to be used up. We are not here to get glory, recognition or praise. All the glory, recognition and praise should not to be stored up on a shelf or a pew; we are to go out and be used up.
be directed toward God. We are to be doers of the word and not hearers only. We are
This is not our home. We are not to store up treasure here. Our reward is in heaven, not on this earth. The more we are used up here, the greater our reward will be there. It's not about us, it's about God and His purpose of saving souls. We tend to want it to be about us; if not fully, then just a little bit. We have the notion that if we got out of our comfort zone yesterday, then today we can reward ourselves. God's rewards are so much better than any reward we could ever give ourselves. Let's hold out for His rewards. Let's persevere. Let's be used up.

We can continually be used up and filled up, used up and filled up
if we continually fill ourselves with God and His word. It's a never ending process.

Grace and peace,
